Townsville is a city on the north-eastern coast of Australia, in the state of Queensland. Townsville lies approximately 1300km north of Brisbane, and 350km south of Cairns. The town is located adjacent to a central section of the Great Barrier Reef; it is in the dry tropics region of Queensland. Townsville is characterized by a tropical savanna climate, and due to its geographical location the winter rainfall in this area is not as high as elsewhere in the tropics such as Cairns. The winter months are also dominated by blue skies, warm days and cool nights.

Due to the beautiful year round weather locals and tourists participate in a variety of activities throughout the year. Some of these include visiting Castle Hill and Flinders Street; taking a leisurely stroll through the old districts to take in the gothic architecture of the area or visiting the manors and country houses; and meandering through the parks and gardens to see the beautiful botanic displays. Some of the more popular botanic displays that tourists may choose to view include ?The Strand?, which is a long tropical beach and garden strip River way which is a riverfront parkland located on the banks of the Ross River; the Museum of Tropical Queensland which is built around a display of sunken British warship HMS Pandora; and Magnetic Island, a large neighboring island, the vast majority of which is national park. National Parks not only offer some magnificent natural sites including waterfall cascades, but also hiking, swimming in the fresh water and viewing the wildlife.

 

Temporary accommodation in Townsville is readily available, and is predominately in the form of units, apartments or housing ready to rent. Townsville certainly is an area that is worthwhile visiting, be it for a few days, a week or forever, there is never a shortage of things to see and do in this stunning area.
